Nonbinary Frequency: A Glitch in the Chain

“The glitch is a form of refusal.” (Russell, 2020) This necklace is a glitch: a refusal of smooth binaries between body and data, matter and code, IRL and URL. Born from a scan of a brooch, edited, printed, and assembled into new constellations, it activates portals through AR objects that are not digital twins, but independent entities. It embodies “error as a generative force” (Russell, 2020), manifesting multiple realities that coexist, entangled and parallel. A soft armor for queer temporalities, it becomes “a new possibility of becoming” (Russell, 2020), carried across collarbones, whispering that there are other worlds, and we carry them. (Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto, by Legacy Russell, 2020, Verso, London, New York)

With the use of two AR (augmented reality) tools to see the AR pieces.

Scan the QR code with your phone and click on the link. On the webpage that opens you will be able to read the concept behind this series. If you click on the cube in the top right corner of your screen, you will switch to the AR mode. This way, you will see a 3D butterfly, that you can scale, move, and also move around it at will.

Use the app Artivive on your phone to see the animated butterflies. Download the app here:
