The artist Izabella Petrut

Izabella Petrut is a Romanian born jewelry maker, living and working in Vienna, Austria. She loves to challenge the different facets of jewelry, from wearability, to material and concept. Petrut loves jewelry, design, contemporary and especially conceptual art, dark chocolate, slam poetry, ballet and yoga. She is fascinated by the development of block chain and crypto currency, new technologies and the internet of things.

The upbringing

While growing up, Petrut’s interests consisted of studying (mostly physics and mathematics) and passionately practicing rhythmic gymnastics and Kyokushin Karate. She believes this activities have been essential in the way her soul was shaped into what it is today.

The artistic praxis

In her artistic practice, she draws from her own life and experiences. Then she lets chance work its magic and bring in a certain gestual effortless abstraction to the issues she feels passionate about. Petrut likes to experience with different materials and techniques, and to learn new ones in order to open up new paths of creation.

Izabella Petrut is a contemporary jewelry designer. She has acquired practical and theoretical skills by completing a Bachelors’ (2007) and a Masters’ (2009) degree in Design at the University of Arts and Design, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She has graduated the GJ3 Specialisation program at Alchimia, School of contemporary Jewelry, Florence, Italy (2012) with professor Ruudt Peters. At the moment she conducts her doctoral studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and she is a member of Atelier STOSSIMHIMMEL Vienna.
